Send me the goodies, please!

See you there!

Win a gift voucher to Clientelle boutique at St Ives

Did you know that I have a newsletter?

Well I do. It’s nothing huge. In fact, it’s not even regular. I know all the marketing people among you will be sucking air through their teeth right now, but you know what? I usually only write if I actually have something to say. I don’t want to clog people’s already over-full in-boxes just because some marketing plan somewhere says that I have to send a newsletter at least once a week, at the same time and on the same day each week.

I refuse to.

Wanna know what else? There are good things on offer to those who are on my newsletter subscriber list: You get to hear first about any limited offers that I have, meaning you get first dibs before the offer runs out. I share tips and tricks that I have learned along the way, sometimes about photography, sometimes about kids, sometimes about how to hang picture frames and get them straight. And soon I will launch a series of 10 lessons on how to take better photos of your own kids. And then there are some offers that I make that are exclusively for people on my list.

I have one of those running at the moment. It’s a wee competition, and you get a chance to win simply by being a subscriber to my list! How easy is that?

What can you win? A $50 gift certificate to Clientelle clothing boutique at St Ives! So go on…. sign up today. It’s easy, just click the link in green below.

People in paper houses

Here’s another bit of creativity from my daughter. Things like this usually happen when I let my kids get bored… really bored…  in ready access to craft materials. I love what they come up with! Such detail and so cute. I adore the oversized toothbrush on the floor in the bathroom, but my favourite bit of this house is that colourful bookshelf.

She made everything herself, completely unaided (except the little dolls, which were a gift to her from a friend). I suspect she has been influenced by the work of Lauren Child, particularly a book we have about The Princes and the Pea. It’s exquisite, and I highly recommend it, not only for the gorgeous collages and photography, but also for the very Lauren Child-esque retelling of the story. So much fun!

My design process

I’m a pencil and paper girl.

Always have been, and probably always will be. I love to write old fashioned letters by hand and pop them into the post, and I keep a paper diary. The first draft of my PhD dissertation was written by hand, with pencil, on the back of scrap paper, and I literally cut and pasted paragraphs from one page to another with scissors and a stapler. OK, so maybe that’s not really “pasting” so much as “stapling”, but you get my point.

So it’s not a surprise, then, that when I’m designing something for print, it often starts looking like this:

Then goes to this:

And ends up looking like this:
