Sneak a peek at the lads – Sydney family photography by Jennifer Taylor

Yesterday I got to hang out with these guys for a while.

I had a great time listening to the gentle ribbing they gave each other. Reminded me of my three big brothers.

A couple of head shots:

I love this next one of B. He’s getting married in a couple of weeks. He looks like he’s got a lot on his mind…

Hope you like these images of your boys, R. I’ll be in touch soon to arrange a proofing session. Enjoy the wedding!

today I saw…

Check out this fabulous idea from the very creative Jill Wignall. Each day she sketches on a postcard something that’s caught her eye that day, and then sends the postcard to someone. She also photographs each postcard and posts it on her blog. Isn’t that a great idea? What a lovely way to share your day with others, and send them a little love and cheer at the same time! Here are a couple of her images (used with permission, of course.)

Jill’s happy for people to run with this idea, so feel free to send some postcards yourself! She has also started a flickr group where you can share photos of your work. Happy drawing!

One of THOSE days – sydney child photographer

We had one of THOSE days the other day. You know the ones. Those oh-so-two-year-old days where black is white and up is down. On THOSE days  my son (who is normally such a joy to be around) is downright cranky. Nothing I do is right.

“Pick-e-up!” he screams. So I pick him up. “No! No! No, no, no, NO, NO! Don’t pick-e-up!” he cries. So I put him down.

Then he asks for a banana. Every day for the last 1½ years he has asked me to peel and slice his bananas, so I peel and slice one for him. “No! No! Not like THAT!” he yells. “Put it back. Fisk it, mummy!” No matter how hard I try, I just can’t work out how to “fisk” (fix) a sliced banana, and I just have to let him cry that one out.

On THOSE days we mothers* need to dig deep…. so deep… to find the extra reserves of patience we need to parent in a calm and loving manner. Sometimes my well runs dry.

By about 8:30 in the morning.

On this particular one of THOSE days, I was putting my son in the car…. no, actually trying to convince him that he should get in the car so that we could pick up his sister from school. Of course, his idea of getting in the car and my idea of getting in the car are two completely separate thought bubbles. He insisted on standing on that little lip on the edge of the car where the door closes and trying to jump into his car seat, landing on his bottom (which requires a jump, twist and wriggle and has a degree of difficulty of 7.5). After three failed attempts, I spoke before I had put my mental censor into gear:

“I wish you could just get into the car like a normal person!”

“But I can’t, Mummy,” replied my son. “I’m a boy!”

Touché.

Kreativ Blogger award

Rosalind Grace of Grace Designs kindly nominated me for a Kreativ Blogger award. It’s taken me a while, but here I am finally living up to my end of the bargain!

Here’s how it works:

  • First, copy the Kreativ Blogger picture, and post it in your blog.
  • Thank the person who nominated you, and link to their blog. (Thanks Ros! Link above.)
  • List seven things you don’t know about me. Here they are:
  1. Inside my left elbow is a little patch of freckles in the shape of a crown. I think I must really be a princess. No, really and truly!
  2. I’m no good at baking cakes. I made two sponges for my daughter’s first birthday, which I then sandwiched together with strawberry jam and cream, with fresh strawberries on top. Together they measured about 5 cm in height. (That’s about 2 inches.)
  3. I hold a bachelors degree in modern languages and linguistics from an Australian uni, and then followed that up with studying at uni in Japan, and then later a PhD in early childhood education. Just to be sure I really got the whole going to uni thing out of my system.
  4. I worked as a health care interpreter for a while before I realised that interpreting is just not the job for me.
  5. My father used to sing a song to each of us kids if we were a bit upset at bedtime. I sing the same song to my kids. I can even sing myself to sleep with it. I think I must have been one of Pavlov’s dogs in a past life.
  6. I can pack down a rugby scrum: Sink! Squeeze! Heave!
  7. I have climbed to the top of an active volcano.

Next:

  • Choose seven other bloggers to pass the award to, and link to their blogs.

Here they are:

  1. Sam Pearce
  2. Miss Cinti of My poppet
  3. Eve Grzybowski (yoga suits her)
  4. Lee of Luvlee Photography
  5. Amanda Keeys
  6. Between the lines
  7. Imprintables

And finally, notify those seven bloggers.

Done.

Pascale - Thanks for the award! It’s my second Kreativ Blogger Award in a month – does that make me really really creative then?! Since I just shared 7 things, would you mind if I refer to that same list again…? Many thanks! And a wonderful weekend!
